Unsettled's return to Travel Policy

Unsettled’s Travel Policies

Updated: February 4, 2022

Unsettled is committed to returning back to travel, slowly, safely, and confidently. Why are we returning to travel now? Simply put, we know the life-changing impact that our experiences have on our community — and on the lives of those who work in our industry — and we believe we can return to these experiences now while keeping our community safe and healthy. We’re ready for a comeback!

We understand that everyone has different levels of comfort, excitement, and risk when it comes to traveling today. We know some of us are already traveling — in fact hundreds in our community have indicated this to us in our recent surveys. Meanwhile, others are continuing to experience the effects of Covid-19. Indeed, some are still experiencing direct personal impacts on their lives. As a team, we are no different as we have experienced the many ups and downs during the pandemic.

As we ease back into running travel, we have chosen our first locations with caution and confidence. We will require that all travelers have either a COVID vaccine and a negative test upon arriving at your destination.

In any event, the situation is dynamic and we have updated our travel policies to reflect this. Here are our latest policies around cancellations, transfers, deposits, and payments as of February 4, 2022.

Vaccination and COVID-19 Testing Requirements
Unsettled will require all participants to be fully vaccinated and have a negative PCR or rapid antigen test result within 72 hours of the trip start.

*Our policies may change as new information becomes available. Any updates to our itineraries will be communicated promptly via our website and email.

Vaccination: Unsettled will require all guests to be fully vaccinated and to carry proof of their vaccination with them for 2022 departures*. (*If you qualify for a medical exemption, please contact our team.)

A hard copy, digital copy, or picture of your vaccination certificate along with your negative COVID-19 PCR/antigen test results will be accepted. We’ll also accept a medical certificate confirming recovery from COVID-19 dated no more than 90 days before departure. We’ll consider all medical exemptions as well and make any approvals directly and in private consultation.

Please note that many regions (including most international destinations) have additional requirements and/or documents needed for entry. It is your responsibility to know and comply with the requirements in your travel destination(s).

For the health and safety of the group, if you are unable to show proof of vaccination and negative test results, you will be unable to join the trip and our standard cancellation policy applies.

You are considered fully vaccinated two weeks after the second dose in a two-dose series or two weeks after a single-dose vaccine.

We encourage those who are eligible to get a booster dose. At this time we are not requiring it for travel with us but are closely monitoring what the CDC considers “fully vaccinated.”

COVID-19 Testing: Unsettled will require a negative COVID-19 PCR or rapid antigen test within 72 hours of the start of your trip, presented on the first day. Copies of negative COVID-19 test results obtained for a country’s travel entry requirements are accepted as long as they were received within 72 hours of trip start.

We recommend you purchase the  Abbott’s BinaxNOW COVID-19 Ag Card At-Home Rapid Test Kit from eMed, if you are unable to find testing locally.

This is also a good option for international travel and US re-entry requirements, and we suggest you bring additional tests with you.

Our Experience Leaders can help facilitate getting tested locally if guests become symptomatic while on trip with us. You also need to arrive symptom-free.

Symptomatic Participant: If a participant starts experiencing symptoms during the trip, they will be asked to isolate at their accomodations and our guides will provide guidance on the nearest medical facility to seek further evaluation.

What if Unsettled postpones my trip?
As we ease back into travel, we will review trips on a constant basis. We will do a final review at 60, 45, and 30 days before (or closer as necessary) any trip’s start date to determine that it is still feasible and safe to run the trip. If we postpone your trip, we will place 100% of your trip payments into trip credit used for future travel. For any trips that we postpone, you will have 1 year from the trip start date to use your credit on a new trip.

What is Unsettled’s updated policies on refunds, transfers, and payments?
Deposits are fully refundable up to 45 days before the start date of your trip. Your spot is held as soon as you make your payment. Final payments are due no later than 45 days before your retreat’s start date. You can transfer your credit to another trip (within 6 months) one time, up until 45 days before your trip start date. 45 days before your trip’s start date there are no refunds or transfers. However, if Unsettled postpones the trip, your full payment amount will be credited and available for you to use up to 1 year from your trip start date.

As we’ve all learned during the past year, everything is subject to change. Please understand that these policies may change at any time due to the very fluid and unpredictable situation.

We also want you to know that we are committed to staying true to our values. We have learned from past challenges and are able to adjust as the environment changes. We pride ourselves on being a flux-minded company that deals well with uncertainty. We are excited to be traveling again and we are confident that now’s the time for us to begin to get back into it, slowly but surely.

What type of travel insurance is required?

Travel insurance is required for all Unsettled trips and retreats. We require your policy to include trip interruption and cancelation coverage for COVID. We have seen participants test positive at the end of their trips and unable to fly home on their scheduled day. Travel insurance that covers trip interruption and cancelation due to COVID is the best way to protect your investment. Participants assume all risks involved whether they carry travel insurance or choose not to.
