A decade ago, I touched down in Bali, anticipating a 30-day remote work experience. Little did I know, this journey would spark the creation of Unsettled. Since then, over 1,000 participants from more than 60 countries have joined us in Bali, engaging in countless adventures, deep philosophical discussions, and lifestyle design sessions that stretched into the night on this enchanting “Island of the Gods.”
Bali remains our original and most cherished destination. We return time and again because this island offers a unique experience for those ready to question norms and embrace a different way of living.
In 2025, we’re excited to continue this tradition. Join us from May 31 to June 26, 2025, for an immersive experience that blends work, exploration, and personal growth in a community of like-minded individuals.
Here’s how Unsettled: Bali takes shape…
Who Joins Unsettled Bali?
Who comes together in this magical place for a month?
It’s impossible to give a compelling overview of who joins Unsettled: Bali. Usually, you can’t even imagine the types of backgrounds on our trips. A 30-something Romanian psychotherapist becomes besties with a retired South African entrepreneur. Each person comes with a lifetime of experiences, ambitions, learnings, and new beginnings.
Participants will come from around the world and from different professional backgrounds. We’re typically in our 30s, 40s, and 50s, but we do not have age restrictions.
Our primary criterion is for participants to be respectful and curious about how these diverse backgrounds and perspectives come together. Our goal is to form a learning community where everyone has something to contribute and learn.
Where Exactly is Unsettled: Bali?
Our retreat takes place in Ubud, located in what we consider the heart of the island. It’s a quieter side of the island compared to the hustle and party vibes of the south. You’re more likely to meet people in Ubud who are here to take yoga teacher training than to party on vacation.
Our villa is in a mixed residential neighborhood, just outside of central Ubud, and a 15-minute walk to our coworking space. We also have fiber optic internet running right into our villa, so you can work from your room or head over to our coworking space that’s open 24/7.
We typically have 12–15 participants stay on-site with us. Rooms have porches, and we have a pool and common space for gathering.
Outside our villa, we plan one local adventure per week for the group to explore. We take you to our favorite spots to chill and decompress as well as some of the best experiences behind the tourist facades in Bali.
What’s Our Collective Purpose In Bali?
The reason you come is up to you. As a group, Unsettled participants are looking for inspiration, new ways of working and living, and quality connections. We are a deeply curious bunch, willing to ask philosophical, big questions of life as much as we are ready to let loose and have fun.
Everyone brings something to work on, but that’s different from person to person. Some participants are working remotely full-time in jobs that offer a lot of freedom. Others are running their own businesses from abroad. And yet others are working on their next chapter and want to do so in a like-minded community.
If you are ready for a change in routine, this is your invitation to consider Unsettled: Bali.
Join us in Bali for an experience that promises to inspire and challenge you on your path to whatever is next for you. We’ll continue to explore the intersection of people, place, and purpose, and we hope you join us.
Unsettled is a global community for those who live and work differently.
