What better place to step outside of our routines, beyond the cacophony of expectations tugging away at our lives, then as close to nature as possible? For 8 nights, we are going off-grid to get close to nature and far from our daily distractions, in one of the most sustainable, unspoiled corners of the world.
Accessible only by foot or boat, our beachfront property was designed by a world renowned permaculturalist and it has more than 300 varieties of tropical fruit and nut trees, abundant root crops, vegetables, and over 150 medicinal plants.
If you are feeling burnout, a need for adventure, or want to reimagine your lifestyle, this retreat is for you. You’ll have over a kilometer of private, undeveloped beach and not a road, car, or office in sight.

The Unsettled Costa Rica Experience

Unsettled Costa Rica is a natural choice for anyone who wants to give themselves the time, space, and tools to hit reset, to reimagine, and redefine what matters in their life. We do this in the most Unsettled way possible. We ask big questions of our lives and facilitate life-defining conversations, and we do it deep in nature, make it one wild adventure, and curate a learning community of your peers for one magical experience. Welcome to Unsettled.
Nature.
Set among primary rainforest that’s never been developed (or never will be), our retreat center is surrounded by 12,382 land acres and 10,950 marine acres of a nationally protected wildlife refuge. We will be living among the rainforest, right on the beach, and under the stars this week. We sleep in hand-built bungalows, set on an organic permaculture farm which also has classroom space, a yoga shala, and family-style meals.
Rustic? Yes. Adventurous? Absolutely. Unique? We dare you to find something as one of a kind as this.

Adventure beckons in Costa Rica. Here are a few of the adventures we have planned:
✓ You wake up to daily yoga, meditation, or a reflective journaling session in nature
✓ Your journey begins with an ecological tour of the Gandoca Manzanillo National Wildlife
✓ You will take a class each on permaculture, medicinal plants, and rainforest ecology
✓ You can kayak, surf, or fish at the end of each day
✓ We will curate some group adventures from natural mud baths to waterfall hikes and special group meals to cocoa ceremonies hand collected right onsite
✓ And you can choose from a dozen optional activities from surf lessons by some of the best instructors in Costa Rica, to standup paddleboard tours on a protected river, and much more.
Learning Community
Let’s face it, while the nature and adventures in Costa Rica are among the best in the world, it wouldn’t be Unsettled without a learning community made up of your peers and facilitated by our Global Experience Leaders. For one week, you will join Unsettled’s community of entrepreneurs, creatives, and professionals from all walks of life who are here to, yes have one hell of an adventure, but to also open up and share many learnings from our careers, transitions through life, and, ultimately, where it is all heading. Every retreat is unique, but expect to have conversations, moments of reflection, and insights that contribute to your life well beyond this week.
What’s Included
- Shared rooms in eco-accommodations steps from the beach
- All meals (nearly all organic) once we arrive on site are included
- Bus transportation from San Jose to our property upon arrival
- 100 acres of secluded, unspoiled, and sustainable beachfront property to ourselves
- On our first day, a guided hike into the property with a local naturalist
- Wifi in the middle of primary rainforest, turned on for 3-4 hours/day!
- Unsettled’s full-time Global Experience Leader to connect you to this experience
- A diverse and curated community of professionals to network and explore life with this week
- Facilitated peer-to-peer & Unsettled workshops, learning sessions, reflections and conversations
- Local workshops, classes, and introductions to: yoga, meditation, permaculture, rainforest ecology and/or medicinal plant therapy
- Spontaneous adventures around the property — from kayaking to beach parties — and optional day trips up and down the coast
