This November, we are exploring:

Remote by Design

Maybe you always dreamed of working remotely…and then got more than you bargained for in 2020. Or perhaps you’ve been enjoying the benefits of remote work forever, and this was the year you finally saw all of your friends and colleagues step into the future. Whether you’ve moved out of the city and into your dream, or been living it all along, now is the perfect moment to bring intention to your remote life.

And while there’s something to be said for leaving special moments in life to serendipity, we can greatly benefit by applying the principles of design to help us answer the question: How might I live given what is now possible in this era of remote work?

Unsettled has helped thousands of people work remotely since 2015, and in 2020, we’re helping some of the world’s biggest companies cultivate a community and culture around working remotely.

One of our best kept secrets is that our approach applies the methodologies taught in design schools to our work and lives, and this month we are sharing it! Join us and learn how we, at Unsettled, accept failure as an outcome, take risks, and iterate and ideate all in the name of answering one of the most pertinent questions of this new decade: How will you be intentional in how you’ll live and work remotely?

Consider this your one-time invitation to join us to explore: Remote By Design.

PS. If you haven’t seen Unsettled’s Future of [Remote] Work 2020 Report, we gathered responses from 40+ expert CEOs, academics, and thought leaders exploring what to expect from this dramatic shift.

NOVEMBER 2020 | INITIAL PROGRAMMING SCHEDULE

UPCOMING PUBLIC SESSIONS

These free sessions are open to members and non-members, as an opportunity for you to experience the Global Passport.

Future of Remote Work Panel: Where Do We Go From Here?

#Discover Session | Monday, November 16th, 3p ET / 8p GMT

As the world settles into a more remote way of living and working, one thing is certain: for organizations and employers to succeed, they must take a human-centric approach in a world with more automated processes than ever before. In this panel, we’ll hear from guest speakers who have been leading this Future of Work movement long before COVID accelerated it in 2020. We will come together in this panel to re-imagine how human elements such as culture, community, and emotions play a role in a more technology-driven world.

Gary Bolles and April Rinne, both leaders in the Future of Work, will explore how individual freedom and choice line up with every company’s need for more effective collaboration, production, and output. Hint: the two may just go hand in hand.

Bringing Vulnerability Into Your Remote Workplace

#Connect Session | Thursday, November 19th, 9am ET / 2pm GMT

Does working remotely mean that we’re all destined for more solo, lonelier work experiences? Is it possible to use our tech-first work world to be even more vulnerable than we were in the office worlds of the past? In this session, Stephanie Lee, Buffer’s Team Experience Manager, will share the inputs and outputs from her work to bring more vulnerability into the workplace. Come ready to roll up your sleeves and get vulnerable yourself!

What's Next? A Conversation with the Founders of the Work from Anywhere Movement

#Discover Session | Wednesday, November 25th, 9am ET / 2pm GMT

Even in this moment that finds many of us traveling less, there’s a massive question that needs answering: When the pandemic ends, what will mobility look like for those of us who love to travel and can work remotely? In this conversation, Unsettled’s founders will be joined from friends across the Work from Anywhere movement as we dive into what may come next.

Remote by Design Kickoff Call

#Connect Session | November 3rd

It’s here. The remote-first economy has arrived, and sooner than we anticipated. How are you benefiting from it? How is it more stressful on your life? Are you in control, or has it shaken you up? It’s not too late to apply principles from design to help you realize its full potential. In this session, we are going to assess how well you’ve designed for a remote-first life and learn some tools for how we might better design it from this point onwards.

Designing for Joy in a Digital Age

#Grow Session | November 10th

Whether it’s Marie Kondo’s bestselling book, “Joy at Work”, or just the fact that you find yourself working in a completely new environment in 2020, designing for joy at work may be more plausible today than ever. In this session, we’re going to learn how to look at our digital lives by using ‘joy’ as a lens for designing how we work with the goal to make tangible changes in how we work.

What Fortune 500s Can Teach Us About Lifestyle Design

#Grow Session | November 23rd

In the 1970s, Fortune 500 companies developed and began to use Scenario Thinking to stretch their minds and develop several different, but all plausible options for how the future unfolds and impacts their interests. It’s become a cornerstone tool for making decisions for any organization, big or small, when faced with uncertainty. We are going to apply this thinking, from the unlikeliest of sources, to our own lives and see how it helps us be remote by design.

How to Know Where to Live, When You Can Live Anywhere

#Grow Session | November 30th

For those of us with the privilege to answer this question, it can be a difficult riddle to unwrap. This session is designed to help you choose great places to live. First up, Unsettled team members will share their processes, formulas, and spreadsheets for how they’ve chosen where to live. Then, in part two of this workshop, Unsettled Global Passport members will present on why their current ‘homes’ are great places to live for all of us. They’ll share photo essays, listicles, and maybe even bust out a poem or two about their remote home away from home. Beware! You might end up with packed bags after this session.

+ Many more. Join the Global Passport this month to meet the global community, and see all experiences, sessions, community contributions, and curated connection opportunities!
